sock and glove

i saw this book on the web months ago but in Japanese. i'm so glad it's in English now. Super cute ideas for making stuffed animals out of socks and gloves (obviously). here's my first attempt.

it kinda looks like piglet from winnie the pooh, i think. one sugestion i have is to not use really stretchy socks or gloves. they have too much give and become stretched thin when stuffed. i think i'll raid the boyfriend's sock drawer for some tube socks and see if that works better. in my attempt to use everything and not throw anything away, this guy was stuffed with the sewing trash (thread ends, fabric cuttings, leftover bits of foam)

he's on his way to Vermont as well. they probably think i'm crazy for sending them so much stuff.

keeping busy

well i see it's been a month since my last post. this is exactly why i'm getting rid of the other one. so i've been keeping busy trying to get a box of stuff together for Seven Mountains in Vermont. the cup sleeves have been selling well at the coffee shop at work. the problem is that when i run out of them at work, i steal from Stacey's stash to replenish them. after a few weeks, i think i've saturated the market enough that my stock at the coffee shop will last and Stacey can get hers.



i've also been saving my scraps for piecing together. i'm able to use these patchwork pieces for many things like the front of cards and here as coasters.

i got this idea for piecing from Denyse Schmit's book "Quilting" and find it's a great way to use the small scraps. i tend to fall in love with certain fabrics and don't want to waste any of it. my goal with Stacey's stuff is to try to make things that replace something that might have otherwise been a disposable item and to use all of my materials by not throwing anything away.

another snowy day

As you can see out the window, we had another snow day. Since I couldn't go anywhere, I took advantage of the time to do some more sewing projects. I'm sending Stacey 4 shopping bags, 2 hats and a bunch of cup sleeves.

I'm hoping that this year won't be like last year with snow every week and no melting in between. I'm tired of shoveling.
